Man Fleeing Traffic Stop Allegedly Causes Crash

Police arrested a Prattville man after he reportedly fled a traffic stop on Wednesday and caused a crash in Elmore County.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Trooper Michael Carswell said troopers stopped 26-year-old Angelo Jahmal Jones II on I-65 near Cobbs Ford Road around 1 p.m.

The authorities did not say why they initially sought to stop Jones.

However, he reportedly fled the scene and hit a vehicle at the exit ramp of Cobbs Ford Road.

Carswell said the other individuals involved in the crash suffered minor injuries. He did not say how many people were affected.

Jones was arrested on a number of charges including leaving the scene of an accident with injury, attempting to elude, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and first-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. Some of these are felony offenses.

Jones also faces several other traffic charges. He was booked into Elmore County Jail after his arrest.

All drivers in Alabama are required to stop at the scene of an accident or as close to it as possible and carry out certain tasks. They should call 911 if someone was injured and exchange contact information and insurance details with the other drivers involved. This should be done without obstructing traffic more than is necessary.

Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries or death can result in a Class C felony. If Jones is convicted, he could face a $15,000 fine and one to ten years in prison. He may also face license revocation, court costs, probation, and other penalties.

If you or a loved one was hurt in an accident, reach out to an Alabama car accident lawyer. You may be able to get compensation for medical bills, lost wages, property damage, pain and suffering and other losses.
