Montgomery, AL – A collision between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car resulted in the death of one man early Thursday morning. A mobile man dies in Montgomery I-65 crash

The crash occurred on Interstate 65 North at the Fairview Avenue exit and it involved a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer and a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The Montgomery Police Department and fire medics responded around 5 a.m.

Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer, 42-year-old Clifton Taylor of Mobile, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Officers revealed that the Freightliner drifted into the Corvette’s lane and collided with it.  Taylor then overcorrected and this caused the rig to overturn.

Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, collisions between commercial trucks and passenger vehicles are not uncommon and contrary to what many people believe, truck drivers are not always at fault.

Just a week earlier, three people died in a crash involving a car and a freight truck which was hauling lumber on Lillian Bridge which connects Alabama and Florida.

Florida Highway Patrol said the car was traveling toward Florida when it went over the center line and smashed head-on into the truck. The freight truck went up in flames and its driver 48-year-old Sheldon Liddell died at the scene.

The car’s driver Russell Drummond and passenger Christian Beech, both 19, were ejected from their vehicle and they also died at the scene.

Truck accidents are particularly dangerous. Trucks can weigh up to 30 times as much as a passenger car and when loaded, tractor-trailers need 20 to 40 percent more space to stop safely. This is compounded by wet roads, driver fatigue, poorly maintained brakes, and other factors.
